Tell me your horrors. All in the name of research!

I'm on a hunt for real experiences of spooky encounters to inform my writing. Anything, even if you think it is silly, will be really useful. It could be a dream, a story you overheard, or something your papa-bear used to tell you to freak you the hell out.

Please comment, and if you could then please ask your buddies to do the same. It's all in the name of research! Fanks!

  1. You might want to attend a spiritualist church meeting. That will really help you find out about spooky experiences. The mediums are usually only to willing to tell you the things they have experienced. You can find your local meeting online. It isn't a cult or anything, it is actual rather a peaceful experience.

  3. Every bar I have ever worked at has had a haunted cellar story! Usually the random stuff :)
Right now we're watching a film (not sure which) and there is a wierd lullaby being hummed during a spooky moment...add the creepy humming to all creepy scenes!!!!!

  4. So tell us about the spooky cellar in JC's, Scan! Ever been creeped out there yourself? Or do you just enjoy sending newbies down there just to scare them? :P

  5. There are staff toilets next to the cellar with a big skylight in...so you can convince people that when they go in there alone, they can feel someone watching them. The skylight makes it seem like someone is watching. Used to with me when I first started annyways!
With the cellar we have an intercom linking the bar to the cellar, so when we send staff up there sometimes we'll whisper their names really quietly. :)
Didn't realise once the intercom had linked somewhere else, so when one of the staff called up to me, a bloke just went...."Um hello?" and then Icouldn't get an answer, but staff in the bar didn't hear it. So think it was my imagination.
    Share your stories L.

  6. He he he. Maybe it was your ghost who answered! That'd be fun :P

I think you need to rope Papa-Bear into commenting on here with all of his spooky tales! He kept us awake and scared with them, so why not spread the fear via t'internet?! :P

  7. Ahhhh as Anna says, JC's is meant to be haunted, but not just in the cellar (although those toilets are creepy lol). After everyones gone home at night, the cleaners come in, and some of the cleaners have heard and seen things. One was telling me how she had locked herself in to the bar so that no one could walk through whilst she was cleaning, went into the girls toilets and heard a screech and a bang. So she went back into the bar which was completely silent and empty. No one had come in or out yet one of the stalls which are quite heavy had moved from one side of the room to the other and left a long mark on the wooden floor as if it had been dragged. So who knows :D

  8. Oooooooo KT! Thanks for posting and for creeping me out! I do love to be spooked :P

Why is it always toilets, eh? I think every school I have ever been to has had the story about the haunted toilet... maybe because it's somewhere you are generally alone? Unless, apparently, you are in a bar on Wind Street. In which case girls seem to think that cramming five or six buddies into the stall with them is perfectly okay...

  9. Ooo, always good...JCs does have some good ones, sometimes it does feel eerie when you're alone in there. I hate the customer toilets too! Just something about them..Then again Fulton House is very old, could be haunted! :P

The other thing was when I moved away from home in first year, I'd wake up every night to see a figure sat on my chair watching me and it wouldn't go away until I turned the light on, but when I turned the light on the chair would always be in a different place to where I left it to go to sleep.. Happened loads when I lived away.
Creepy? or maybe just me freaking out from moving away?

  10. "Ooo, always good…" -- the bit about lots of girls cramming into a toilet stall? You're a weird lass, Scannie! :P

The chair thing is creepy! But those who have ever spent a night with you (there had better not be many, baby sister!) will know that you are a hilarious sleepwalker! You may have dreamed the figure and moved the chair yourself! If I convince myself of that then I can be less creeped out :P

  12. Eeeeeeeeeeek. Don't remind me!

For those of you who didn't pick up on it, Anna and I are sisters. I'm older than her by five years. She's my bestest buddy!

When we were younger, we used to go on family holidays to St Ives in Cornwall. We loved the area with all of its cute little gift shops, the pasties, the beach and the one pub where all of the tourists seemed to converge! We have loads of happy memories from our first trip down that way and I remember that we could hardly wait to get back!

However, when we did return, something had changed. We stayed in the same lovely apartment that we had accommodated the previous year, but the atmosphere had grown stale and cold. Only Anna and I seemed to notice. Maybe because it was worst in our bedroom.

You see...there was this light. It danced on the wall even though we were in an attic apartment with no lighting outside. There was a window in the ceiling, but we closed the blind and the night outside lacked street-lamps and so was pitch black. There were no alarm clocks and these were the days before people carried around the ubiquitous illuminated phone displays which we all have glued to our faces these days...

This light was from nowhere, as far as our young minds could perceive. It was from nowhere and it moved...

It was from nowhere, it moved and it felt so horribly wrong! I read all of Stephen King's "It" in the space of three days (not bad for a book exceeding 1000 pages). Anna and I slept on the beach and kept each other awake in the nights for fear of what our imaginations told us lurked in the room. We even remember asking if we could go home.

It's strange. Nothing happened and it was just a light... but it's presence was almost sickening it was so terrifying. Neither of us understand why, but we both remember the fear intimately.

    *Shudder*

Anyone else have any similar tales to tell? Or different? A tale is a tale just like a horse is a horse :P
